Chapter 17:

I spend the next week doing my lessons virtually from my room after Grenville insisted to everyone that I must have an unnecessary week off before this dinner.

Professor Daphne has been visiting every evening to instruct me on the correct etiquette of seducing the richest man on the planet. I don't bother telling her that her efforts are in vain, I’ll admit the tension between us is like an insatiable itch that needs to be scratched, but there’s no way in hell Grenville will fall for silly parlour tricks. Nonetheless, I play along as best I can. All this flipping hair, sipping tea and fake laughing is exhausting. Each time she finally leaves I savour the feeling of my facial muscles relaxing. Then there’s the upkeep, my days, despite being put on “bed rest,” are filled with people preening and pawing me. I was waxed from head-to-toe on Wednesday, nails trimmed and painted with some kind of non-chip polish -which took a lot longer than I expected- on Thursday. How can there be no trace of any of their mistakes on the internet?

Bella and Cora have been in their element sparing no expense when Grenville’s black card arrives. I’d felt bad about it until they remind me in a passing comment that I may as well take what I can get just to see if he is as “Limitless” as he says. So I start joining in with the online shopping, relishing at the thought of all the notifications he’ll receive. I imagine him pinching the bridge of his nose each time his stupid fancy watch alerts him of a new transaction, the thought brings me nothing but joy.

On Sunday night, Bella cracks open a bottle of champagne and fills me and Cora in on the latest gossip. I listen intently, totally enthralled in the lives of the rich and famous, as we drink and giggle until our stomachs growl. Pulling out my phone, I order us Pizza then run to my room and pull on my favourite light grey loungewear set. The leggings are tight but
